Smarterbuys offered tenants the option of an affordable weekly plan for goods. This was a local investment model – with the funders creating a loan fund to support responsible and affordable borrowing for essential items over a two-year purchase hire agreement.
Prices were much lower than options like high-interest stores, payday loans, or loan sharks, and there was discounts on some household items.
Smarterbuys was led by Northwards and was delivered and funded by One Manchester, New Charter Homes, Northwards, and Salix Homes for the benefit of their tenants.
Other housing providers were able to join and promote the benefits to their tenants.
